FAQ – Registration procedures

Q. When I try to add a course to my minor program during registrations/add-drops, the registration system does not let me add it due to prerequisites even though I have taken them before (or any other reason).

A.  Please follow these steps in the given order:

  1. Try to add the course using any other available category (must, elective, free elective, etc.), If successful, complete your registration by filling out and submitting the form to change the course category to the correct one afterwards.
  2. If the course is in your major curriculum, try to add it to your major program. If successful, complete your registration by filling out and submitting the form , signed by you and the advisor, to count the course in your minor afterwards.
  3. Talk to the course instructor. If they approve, you may be able to add the course by filling out and submitting the form signed by you, the instructor, and the advisor.

In each case you may need to submit a petition or form. Please consult with the student affairs secretary in the Department of Computer Engineering for more specific instructions. For cases 2 and 3, there is a risk that you will be non-registered (See the question below), therefore it is the best to add at least one other course during registrations.

Q.  I do not want to add any course/register this semester, is this possible?

A. The answer depends on your specific case:

  • If you were recently accepted to the program, you must register by adding at least one course.
  • If you were not recently accepted to the program, you may choose not to add/register any courses for one semester. However, you will be dropped from the program if you do not register for two consecutive semesters. Even for the former case, you may need to visit the student affairs office and declare your intention to continue with the minor program.
  • If you have a valid reason, you can apply to take a semester break from the minor program by filling out and submitting the form  (see the official rules and regulations for the details).

Q.  Instead of the compulsory courses, can I take equivalent/similar courses listed on the webpage?

Most of the courses listed are only for the majors that they are offered to. However, if the course instructor agrees and you can register to them instead of the compulsory courses. In this case, after registering to the course, you need to fill and submit the form.
